Clinical Consultations
45-60 MINS · VIRTUAL
Clinical peer support for therapists working with perinatal clients. Consultation focused on relational dynamics, emotional labour, and couples themes that surface in individual therapy. We look at how to stay within scope, reduce burnout, and navigate complexity with confidence and clarity.
Hi, I’m Sam.
I'm a Registered Clinical Counsellor based in Tofino, BC, specializing in the perinatal period and the relational shifts that come with it.
I work virtually with both individuals navigating the identity upheaval of early parenthood, as well as with couples trying to find their way back to each other through the exhaustion, the love, and everything in between.
This work is long-term, honest, and grounded in real life. If that sounds like what you've been looking for, I'd love to connect.

Therapy with me is collaborative, honest, and anchored in real life. I work primarily from a relational lens, which means we pay attention to patterns (patterns between you and others, not just what’s happening inside of you).
I’m here to help you slow things down, make sense of things, and understand what’s underneath the tension. My hope is for you to find your way back to yourself or each other in a way that actually feels doable outside the therapy room.
Especially in the perinatal period, I hold space for both the strain and the strength. The matrescence journey is transformative, long, and sometimes chaotic. We’ll make room for the hard conversations—but we also stay connected to what’s working, what matters, and what might be coming next.

The first step is a free 15-minute consultation. A chance for you to ask questions, share a little about what's bringing you in, and get a feel for whether we're a good fit.
The first full session is mostly about getting oriented. I'll ask about what's been going on, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping is different on the other side of this. If you're coming in as a couple, we'll also talk about how each of you sees things, individually and together.
A note on pace: I work with most individuals and couples over the long term, often years, not weeks. This isn't because something is wrong or stuck, it's because the kind of change I help people make tends to deepen and hold better with sustained, ongoing work (20+ sessions) rather than a short course of sessions. If you're looking for brief, goal-specific therapy, I'm happy to help point you toward colleagues I trust to find the right fit.
If you're logging in with a baby on your lap, a toddler wandering through, or a kid interrupting mid-sentence, that's okay here! Parenthood doesn't pause for therapy, and I'd rather meet you where you actually are than ask you to pretend otherwise. If you need to pause, nurse, or step out for a minute, we'll just pick back up.
Early sessions tend to focus on mapping the patterns underneath what's happening, the moments that trigger conflict or shutdown, and the unmet needs driving disconnection. From there, the work continues to evolve, through transitions, through repair, through whatever the next season brings.
Sometimes there is “homework”, which can be a conversation to prioritize, some patterns to change, or even some mental gymnastics between sessions.

I value honesty over perfection, and depth over quick fixes.
This work isn’t about becoming “better” or “healed” on paper—it’s about feeling more like yourself again, and more connected to others in the middle of real life.
In couples work, I believe:
You can be struggling and still deeply committed
Both partners’ experiences matter, even when they conflict
Repair is more important than getting it right the first time
The good in your relationship deserves just as much attention as the hard
In individual work, I believe:
You can be struggling and still be a good mother
Your needs matter, not just the ones you're meeting for everyone else
Understanding why you feel the way you do is more useful than fixing it faster
The parts of you that existed before this season deserve just as much attention as the ones that are overwhelmed by it
I truly value transparency and respect in the therapeutic relationship. You’ll always know where I stand, and you’ll always be met with care, never judgment.

I hold a Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology and a Perinatal Mental Health Certificate (PMH-C) from Postpartum Support International, one of the most respected designations in this field. My clinical focus has always been the perinatal period: not as a niche I landed in by accident, but one I sought out deliberately post-grad because I believe it's one of the most psychologically rich and underserved seasons of a person's life.
Alongside my private practice, I present at perinatal mental health conferences on the relational complexity of this period. Most recently, I presented on Couples' Adjacent Therapy, how to hold the relational dynamic when only one partner is in the room, drawing on EFT, IFS, and attachment-based approaches.
Before becoming a therapist, I was fully immersed in the fine arts. More than just a quirky fun fact, it genuinely shapes how I work: I'm trained to think critically, sit with ambiguity, and notice what's underneath the surface before jumping to conclusions.
I'm based in Tofino, BC, and work virtually with clients across British Columbia. I'm also a parent to 2 spicy kids, which means I bring lived experience to this work alongside the clinical training. I know firsthand how fast things can shift in this season, and how much it matters to have someone in your corner who actually gets it.
